T-Mobile G1's Internet is *Always* on

Here is an interesting story, courtesy of androidcommunity.com, regarding a user who went overseas to the UK with his G1 with both 3G and roaming data sync turned off. Apparently the G1 ignores this and still tries to connect outward for even phone calls and text messages - racking up approximately $.15 every 3-7 minutes in data charges. T-Mobile reckons the only way to not have this happen is to 1) leave your phone in the U.S or 2) keep your phone turned off.

T-Mobile FTL.

I'm a big believer in the future of the Android platform, and I have typically heard very good things about T-Mobile, but this is not one of them. The fortunate thing here however, is that other Android based phones not manufactured by T-Mobile will be here soon, thus giving us choice. I do not believe the iPhone can say the same thing (unless you happen to think risking making it a brick and unlocking an iPhone is worth your time).
